The International Agency for Research on Cancer has grouped UV-emitting tanning devices in the same category as cigarettes and asbestos by designating them as “carcinogenic to humans.” Specifically, the agency’s research indicates that the use of tanning beds before the age of 30 increases the risk for melanoma, the deadliest skin cancer, by 75%.
